March 25, 2006 -- The fatal shooting of a home invasion suspect at 12311 Flushing Meadows about 8:50 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 24) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the deceased suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. The homeowner, Sergio Quintanilla, 26, was not injured

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters and Officer A.J. Palos reported:

Mr. Quintanilla was in a rear bedroom of his residence when he heard his mother and children screaming his name. He entered his living room and observed two intruders holding assault rifles. Quintanilla retreated to his bedroom and retrieved his own weapon that he kept for personal protection. Upon returning to the living room, both intruders pointed their weapons at Quintanilla and a firefight ensued. During the shootout, one intruder was shot and killed. The second intruder, who may also have been injured, fled the scene in a gray or black Chevrolet vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicated the possible presence of three additional male suspects who never
made it into the residence.
