May 1, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 7500 block of the Gulf Freeway about 6:50 p.m. on Sunday (Apr. 30).

The deceased victim is identified as Jose Castro, 44.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant N. Nguyen and Officer R. Stafford reported:

Three persons were inside a silver Pontiac Sunbird traveling south on the Gulf Freeway and the victim was driving in a red Toyota Tacoma truck. As the victim was exiting the 610 South Loop and entering the Gulf Freeway, he failed to maintain a single lane and struck the Sunbird on its passenger side. The impact forced the Sunbird to spin around and the truck to roll over. The driver of the truck was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Sunbird suffered a minor injury and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for observation.
