Update on Incident at 77 East Edgebrook

May 17, 2006 -- Houston police have arrested one of three suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of two men and the wounding of another at 77 East Edgebrook about 10:10 p.m. on May 9.

Anthony Craig Brown (b/m, DOB 8-7-69) was arrested and charged with capital murder in the 183rd State District Court. He and two other wanted suspects are accused in the killings of Herman Bustamante, 23, and George Portillo, 19. The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Officers A.J. Palos, G. Gonzales and C.T. Hufstedler reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 77 East Edgebrook and discovered a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe with the bodies of two men inside. A third man was found several feet away, suffering from gunshot wounds. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the two men in the vehicle dead. Investigators believe the shooting may have been drug-related.

The suspects were described only as three black males in their late teens or early 20s, driving in a black or burgundy four-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota or Nissan.

Following up on leads, investigators identified Brown as one of the suspects and had charges filed against him on May 12. On Wednesday (May 16), officers with the HPD Westside Patrol Division's Tactical Team conducted surveillance on several locations in southwest Houston and arrested Brown as he was leaving an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Elmside. He was driving a vehicle matching the description given by witnesses at the scene of the shootings.

The two other unknown suspects are wanted in this case. Investigators urge anyone with information on those suspects to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
