Update on Incident at 8334 Gulf Freeway

May 25, 2006 -- Schepps Dairy and Crime Stoppers will lead to the identification of a suspect who fatally shot a man at 8334 Gulf Freeway shortly before midnight on Friday, May 19.

Schepps Dairy is offering up to a $10,000 reward and Crime Stoppers a reward up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of and charge against the suspect in this case, bringing the total reward monies up to $15,000.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. W. Belk and Officer T. W. Miller reported:

The victim, Jose G. Perez, 26, was leaving a local seafood restaurant with his wife, four-year-old daughter and six-month-old boy. After putting the baby in their car, an unknown male walked up to the victim and shot him several times in front of his family. The victim then ran a few feet and fell on the sidewalk. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years of age, 160 to 180 pounds and wearing a brown shirt and dark pants. His head was shaved, but had short black stubble.

A nearby surveillance camera system captured the shooting and a vehicle investigators believe the suspect was driving in. The vehicle appears to be a late 1970s or early 1980s two-door Monte Carlo, burgundy in color with a white top.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
