Traffic Incident at 7100 Katy Freeway

September 2, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 7100 block of the Katy Freeway about 11:35 p.m. on Friday (September 1).

The victim, identified as Eugene Welch, 52, suffered major head injuries and died at the scene.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Officers D. Gutierrez and S. Martinez reported:

The victim was riding his white Harley Davidson motorcycle west on the 7100 block of the Katy Freeway when he failed to drive in a single lane at the Katy Freeway exit ramp to 610 (West Loop). The motorcycle struck the exit ramp divider crash barrels, which caused the Mr. Welch to be thrown from his motorcycle.
