Incident at 5600 Holly View

September 19, 2006 -- Three suspects, one of whom opened fire on a Houston police officer, have been arrested and charged with felony narcotics offenses following an incident at 5600 Holly View about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 17).

The suspects, identified as Delvin Bradford (b/m, DOB 1-18-78), Jon M. Chambers (H/m, DOB 12-2-73) and a 16-year-old male, were taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (cocaine) in the 174th State District Court. The juvenile suspect was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on that charge.

Bradford is also charged with attempting to commit capital murder after firing a shot at HPD Officer L.B. Hicks of the Narcotics Division. Officer Hicks and a second narcotics officer, L.E. Hernandez, returned fire. Neither officer nor the suspect was hit. Officer Hicks was sworn in as an officer in October 1991 and Hernandez in November 1984.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant P.C. Motard and Officer A.D. Brown reported:

Officer Hicks and other narcotics officers were executing a search warrant at an apartment at 5600 Holly View and knocked on the front door of the apartment, announcing their presence several times. When those inside the apartment refused to open the door, the officers forced entry inside. When Officer Hicks began to move through the front door, suspect Bradford used a .380-caliber semiautomatic weapon and fired one shot at him. Officers Hicks and Hernandez fired back. Bradford and the two other suspects were then arrested without further incident.

Officers found a large amount of cocaine, marijuana, guns and cash inside the apartment.

As is customary when an officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
