Incident at 8300 Mykawa Road

April 11, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating the death of a man at 8300 Mykawa Road about 5:35 a.m. today (April 11).

The identity of the victim, 33, is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin. He was discovered hanging from a bunk ladder and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Officer R.P Martinez reported:

Investigators were called to the HPD Southeast Police Station Jail to investigate a suicide. The victim was booked into the city jail for municipal offenses, including public intoxication, and placed into a jail cell. An employee making routine cell checks discovered him. The victim hanged himself with a torn portion of his shirt. He had shown no prior signs of being suicidal.

As is customary in in-custody death incidents, the HPD Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are also investigating this case.
