Traffic Incident at 10000 North Freeway

April 22, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 10000 block of the North Freeway (Interstate 45 North) about 5:50 a.m. today (Apr. 22).

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as James Robert Magouirk, 19, of Angleton, Texas.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.A. Washington Jr. and Officers D.S. Schlichter and S.E. Holmes reported:

The incident started as a minor traffic accident with the drivers of two vehicles exchanging information on the side of the freeway. Investigators are still trying to determine the exact location of both vehicles. It appears Mr. Magouirk was standing behind one of the vehicles when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on the freeway. The impact severed both of Magouirk’s legs, killing him at the scene. The driver of that vehicle that struck the victim is identified as Marco Antonio Montoya (H/m, DOB 5-22-87). Montoya was arrested for various traffic violations and is currently detained, pending blood test results.

The investigation is continuing with possible charges pending in this case.
