Incident at 2400 South Voss August 14, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of an on-duty officer at 2400 South Voss about 4:35 a.m. on Sunday (August 12). HPD Officer Kwami Ahiabor, sworn in as an officer in November 2006 and assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division, suffered a contusion from the bullet that struck his bulletproof vest. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.E. Roberts and Officer J. Sosa reported: Officer Ahiabor arrived at 2400 South Voss and noticed a white Honda Civic driving suspiciously in the area. He then observed the driver of the vehicle get out of the car and attempt to break into a separate vehicle using what he thought was a slim jim. Officer Ahiabor, who was in his full HPD uniform, announced his presence and attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect fled on foot, hid behind several vehicles, produced a pistol and then shot at the officer, striking him in the chest area protected by his bulletproof vest. Officer Ahiabor returned fire, however, the suspect escaped.
