Traffic Incident at 8600 Southwest Freeway
December 30, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian at 8600 Southwest Freeway on Sunday (December 30) about 2:15 a.m.
HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer J. Carriker reported:
HPD patrol officers were dispatched to calls involving a male pedestrian on the Southwest Freeway between Westpark and Bissonnet. When officers arrived, they observed the victim lying in the middle of the freeway. It appears that he was hit several times. The first vehicle to have contact with the victim, a blue Chevy Silverado, immediately pulled over to the shoulder. The driver of a Mustang, who did not strike the victim, also pulled over to provide a witness statement.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado stated that the male was running on the shoulder of the freeway before he suddenly ran into traffic. He slammed on his brakes and attempted to steer his truck to the left to avoid the victim. The victim hit the Chevy Silverado on the right side and then other vehicles hit the victim once he was down.
The investigation is continuing.
