Second Update on Incident at 12600 Newbrook

February 9, 2007 -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 12600 Newbrook about 6:50 p.m. on January 26, 2007.

The suspect, Khayree Samir Smith, (b/m, DOB 10/04/87) is charged with capital murder in the 174th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Santos Ramirez, 40, of 7918 Corrales, who died of an apparent gunshot wound.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N.T. Ruland and Officer E.H. Schmidt reported:

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots in the apartment complex and went outside to investigate where they found Mr. Ramirez, a pizza deliveryman, lying on the pavement. The witnesses reported seeing an unknown suspect fleeing the scene in Ramirez's silver Ford F-150 pick-up truck bearing Texas license plates #9NPV09. The truck was recovered on January 27th in the 12500 block of Wellington Park.
