Incident at 8324 Broadway Street

February 15, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at 8324 Broadway Street about 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday (February 14).

The robbery suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants D. Crain and R. Odom reported:

The suspect entered the IOne’s Liquor store accompanied by two females. The suspect walked around the store for several minutes before approaching the store owner, who was behind the counter. The suspect produced a pistol and began to rob the owner. As the store owner attempted to open the cash register, a customer approached the front, distracting the suspect. The store owner then retrieved a handgun he was carrying and shot the suspect multiple times. One of the suspects’ female companions fled from the store and the second female was detained by the store owner.

The store owner was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.
