Traffic Incident at 6800 South Loop East

January 8, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 6800 block of the South Loop East (610 Loop) about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday (January 7).

The deceased victim, a pedestrian, was struck by a vehicle and then taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer J. Vega reported:

The pedestrian was being followed by a witness after leaving the scene of an accident at Telephone Road at the South Loop East service road, in which he (the pedestrian) was a suspect for failing to stop and give information. The pedestrian attempted to cross the South Loop East mainlanes on foot when he was struck by a Lexus traveling on the eastbound lanes. The female driver and her passenger, her three-year-old daughter, suffered unknown injuries and were transported to Texas Children's Hospital.

Investigations into both accidents are continuing.
