Traffic Incident at 6900 Eastex Freeway

January 28, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 6900 block of the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North) about 4 a.m. today (January 28).

The male victim died at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer S. Johnson reported:

The victim was driving a black 2006 Mazda in the northbound mainlanes of the Eastex Freeway. He drifted left, after possibly falling asleep at the wheel, and struck the concrete barriers. He was not wearing a seat belt.
