Traffic Incident at 2900 Katy Freeway

July 1, 2007 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian at 2900 Katy Freeway about 3:10 a.m. today (July 1).

The suspect, Davis Garcia (H/m, DOB 9-25-74), faces a felony charge of intoxication manslaughter. The identity of the victim, a 55-65 year-old male, is pending verification from the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant R.A. Gonzales and Officer J.J. Vera reported:

The suspect was driving a 2001 Volkswagen east on the Katy Freeway service road when he failed of drive in a single lane and left the roadway. The vehicle jumped two guardrails and traveled on the grass towards the bayou where the pedestrian was sitting. The 55-65 year-old victim was killed on impact.

The suspect was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where mandatory toxicology tests were performed. He refused treatment for his injuries and was released and then booked into the Central Jail.
