Traffic Incident at 9400 Lawndale July 16, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9400 block of Lawndale about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday (July 15). The victim, Mack Herbert, 36, was struck by an 18-wheeler and pronounced dead at the scene. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant R.C. Gonzales and Officer L.D. Morrison reported: An 18-wheeler was west on Lawndale when the driver made a left turn onto Central Street. According to witnesses, Mr. Herbert was lighting a cigarette as he approached the intersection and continued to walk directly into the path of the 18-wheeler. Mr. Herbert was struck and thrown under the rear axle of the 18-wheeler. No charges are pending against the driver at this time. The investigation is continuing.
