Incident At 1200 Travis

July 27, 2007 - Today, Friday (July 27), at about 9:30 a.m., the Houston Police Department headquarters at 1200 Travis, experienced an electrical generator failure in one of the elevator shafts. This resulted in a call to the Houston Fire Department and the evacuation of the building. The electrical fire, generated smoke causing floors 18 through 26 to be unsuitable for employees to work the remainder of the day. Therefore, all employees on those floors were advised to go home. Critical services were relocated to lower floors at police headquarters.

Three police department employees required medical attention due to smoke and or heat exhaustion. One of the three was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

It is not determined when the 18th and above floors will be habitable at this time. An assessment will be conducted to determine when these floors are habitable for work purposes.
