Traffic Incident at 1500 State Highway 6 South

March 24, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating a traffic accident that seriously injured a child at 1500 State Highway 6 South about 1:20 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 23).

The victim, a three-year-old boy, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. His identity has not been released at this time.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officers T. Nguyen and M. Lowder reported:

According to witnesses, the victim's father was driving of a silver Oldsmobile Alero northbound on State Highway 6 in a center turn lane when he swerved into the southbound lanes and struck another vehicle (#2) head-on. The accident caused a third vehicle to rear end vehicle #2. The young boy, who was critically injured, and his father were both transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with unspecified injuries. The persons in the other two vehicles were not seriously hurt. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney's office for possible charges against the father who failed to properly secure the three-year-old in the vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
