Incident at 2400 Francis

October 26, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a juvenile suspect arrested in the death of a man about 11:15 p.m. on August 13, 2007.

The suspect, a 16 year-old male, has been referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Office on a charge of murder.

The victim, Norman Lyles, 50, of 4100 Dowling, suffered trauma to the head and neck and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. He was eventually transferred to a private hospital where he died on September 25, 2007.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. E. Elliot and J. C. Bonaby reported:

Mr. Lyles was assaulted by the juvenile suspect and left lying on the ground next to a service station at Dowling at Francis. Witnesses told officers and HFD personnel Lyles probably slipped and fell. Lyles was then transported to the hospital.

On September 30, a witness told Lyles’ family members Lyles had been beaten and slammed to the ground. The relatives then filed a police report. Homicide investigators interviewed Lyles’ family members, obtained Lyles’ medical records and eyewitness statements on the incident. A juvenile suspect was identified and interviewed on October 10.

Today (October 25), the Harris County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death in this case to be blunt trauma and homicide. The juvenile suspect was arrested at the Contemporary Learning Center and charged in this case.
