HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and Officer A. Mares reported:
Residents reported hearing gunfire in the area of 1600 St. Charles and called police. Upon arrival, officers found a Chevrolet Tahoe at the scene with several bullet holes in the driver's side window. Officers searched the area for more than 30 minutes before locating the victim in an area with heavy vegetation.

It appears the victim was shot while inside the vehicle, got out of the vehicle through the passenger's side door and then collapsed in a vacant lot. A large amount of money and drugs were found at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two dark-colored sport utility vehicles leaving the area after the shooting soon after the gunfire was heard. The possible suspects are only described as two black males.
