Suspect Arrested in 2006 Murder Case

April 1, 2008 - Houston police are awaiting the extradition of a suspect arrested and charged in the death of a man found at 5500 Antoine #16 in October 2006.

The suspect, Marvin Alexander Martinez (H/m, DOB: 5-15-83), is charged with murder in the 208th State District Court. Martinez is also known as Irvin Martinez, Marco Martinez, German Adali Rodriguez-Medina, and Marvin Alexander Martinez-Rodriguez. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Martinez’ true name is Irvin Martinez (H/m, DOB: 5-15-83). Fingerprints and the FBI’s Criminal Information Services Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia confirmed Martinez’ identity.

The victim, Joe Orlando Cervantes, 47, of Houston, suffered blunt trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Gonzalez and Officer R.W. Chappell reported:

HPD Officers responded to a person down call after the maintenance man at 5500 Antoine found Cervantes’ body in a vacant apartment with head injuries.

Further investigation identified Martinez as the suspect and on November 14, 2006, a murder charge was filed.

On Friday (March 28), it was confirmed Martinez was arrested in Westchester County, New York under the alias name of Josue Garcia on unrelated charges. He is currently awaiting extradition to Houston, Harris County, Texas.
