Incident at 7601 Curry

April 2, 2008 - Houston police are seeking to identify a suspect(s) who fired shots in the direction of a Houston police officer and citizens at 7601 Curry about 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday (April 1).

Neither the officer nor citizens were injured.

HOD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Officer J. Rodriguez reported:

Houston Police Officer E.T. Fendia, assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, was working an extra job at the Branch Village Apartments located at 7601 Curry, when he approached a vehicle entering the complex which had a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officer Fendia had the car pull off to the side and detained the occupants. While Officer Fendia was searching the vehicle he heard four or five gun shots near by, but the shots did not appear to be coming from within the complex. Approximately thirty seconds later, as the officer was standing near the passenger’s side door, the vehicle’s rear window shattered.

Neither the officer nor the detained occupants reported hearing additional gun shots. A bullet was recovered from the vehicle. It is possible the bullet was fired from a great distance.

There are no known witnesses at this time.
