Arrest in 2001 Fatal Shooting at 8354 South Meadow

April 4, 2008 - Houston police have arrested a suspect wanted in the 2001 murder of a man at 8354 South Meadow.

The suspect, Joseph Ewells (b/m, DOB: 2-25-72), was arrested on Monday (March 31) by officers with the HPD Southwest Patrol Division. He was transported to the Fort Bend County Jail. Ewells is accused in the killing of David Lopez, 28, who lived at 8354 South Meadow.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters of the Cold Case Unit reported:

David Lopez was found fatally shot in the head in his residence on February 6, 2001. The original homicide investigators developed information leading to Joseph Ewells as the suspect. At that time, Ewells was interviewed but did not admit to any knowledge of the incident.

Last month, investigators presented this case to a Fort Bend County grand jury, which indicted Ewells for murder. He was arrested without incident on Monday and is charged with murder in the 434th State District Court in Fort Bend County.
