Suspects Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 6000 Dashwood

April 7, 2008 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6000 Dashwood about 8:50 p.m. on March 29.

The suspects, Michael Humberto Reyes (H/m, DOB: 1-26-86) and Juan Miranda-Canales (H/m, DOB: 12-22-88), are charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. The two are accused in the killing of Jose Manuel Abarca, 17, of Houston.

The suspects and victim were admitted gang members.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants G. Gonzales, E. Cisneros and Officer J. Sosa reported:

Mr. Abarca was walking with his girlfriend when the suspects drove by in a vehicle and fired shots that hit Abarca and his girlfriend. A short distance away, another victim was also struck by gunfire coming from the same vehicle. All three victims were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where Abarca, who suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach, died on Thursday (April 3).

Both suspects admitted involvement in this case.
