April 9, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 8100 block of Rodney about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday (April 8).

The male victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he later died. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer M. Wick reported:

A blue Chevrolet Suburban was traveling south on Rodney when a white Ford Mustang, driven by the victim, pulled up behind the Suburban at a high rate of speed. After unsuccessfully attempting to pass the Suburban on the right side, the driver of the Mustang pulled behind the Suburban, passed to the left and then struck the Suburban as he passed in front of it. The driver lost control of the Mustang, went up on the curb and struck a tree. The force of the impact pushed the Mustang away from the tree and it struck the Suburban a second time. The driver of the Suburban was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
