Dedication And Hard Work by HPD Ensures Success in Recent Infant Kidnapping Case

April 14, 2008 - Child abductions are sensitive situations that require immediate action. However, handling these frightful and hectic scenes in a professional manner is critical. Due to the dedication and hard work by dozens of officers, the infant who was abducted from the Mothercare Day Care facility at 8133 Beech Cove was found unharmed and joyously returned to her mother and father.

The good job started with the immediate response of more than 10 HPD patrol units. The patrol officers went into action and followed set procedures that are in place for abducted children. The officers conducted field investigations and searched the immediate area while providing a citywide general broadcast to all law enforcement agencies with a description of the child, the suspect, and the circumstances surrounding this event. HPD officers requested and immediately received assistance from the HPD Helicopter Unit to provide aerial support. In addition, two HPD K-9 units responded with dogs, who are scent trained to follow any leads. Assistance was requested from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Detail to support the effort.

Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt said, “Because of the teamwork exhibited by all officers involved, this potentially tragic situation was resolved successfully. This type of effort shows what the police, community, and the media working together can achieve.”
