Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Accident at Gober And Vinett

April 21, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal-auto pedestrian accident at Gober and Vinett about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 19).

The victim, one year-old Alejandro Perez, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.H. Lefler and Officer B. Banks reported:

A silver Dodge Ram, driven by Raymond Benavidez, 64, was stopped at a stop sign on Gober at Vinett. As Mr. Benavidez continued to make a left turn onto Vinett from Gober, baby Alejandro walked onto Vinett, where he was struck by the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed baby Alejandro left his house at 710 Gober without his parents' knowledge. The Harris County District Attorney's Office rejected any charges at this point of the investigation.

The investigation is continuing.
