Fatality Accident at 7800 Gulf Freeway

April 21, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 7800 block of the Gulf Freeway (I-45 South) about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday (April 20).

The victim, identified as Michael Buckler, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.H. Lefler and Officer P. Robles reported:

A silver Acura sedan, driven by Hung Le, 20, was northbound on the Gulf Freeway (lane #2) when a silver Toyota Celica is said to have entered Le’s lane, causing Le to lose control of his vehicle as he avoided a collision. The Acura continued across the freeway, towards the outside shoulder when it was struck by a gray Toyota sport utility vehicle, driven by Meredith Holbert, 24. The Toyota then struck the outside barrier.

Two motorcycles came upon the accident when one of the riders, Mr. Buckler, put his motorcycle down to avoid striking one of the vehicles. Buckler struck the outside barrier and died at the scene. The second motorcyclist, Dwayne McBriyde, 42, struck the Acura.

Three persons suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
