Fatal Shooting at 14205 Kimberly

August 22, 2008 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of another at 14205 Kimberly about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (August 21).

The deceased victim, Gilbert Cruz, 22, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported by private vehicle to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Doctors expect him to survive his injury.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Rubio, Senior Police Officer B. D. Evans and Officer J. T. Barringer reported:

Four Hispanic males were traveling in a Chevrolet Tahoe to a convenience store when they got into an argument with an unknown black male who was walking in the parking lot of Nottingham Park. After passing the black male, the Hispanic males turned the Tahoe, entered the parking lot and pulled up next to the black male. The black male then shot at the vehicle with an unknown type of weapon several times. Cruz, who was a back seat passenger in the Tahoe, and the second victim, a front seat passenger, were struck.

The suspect is described only as a black male in his early 20s.
