Suspect Sought in Fatal Stabbing at 8650 Pitner

August 27, 2008 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in the fatal stabbing of a man at 8650 Pitner about 12 a.m. Monday (August 25).

The suspect, Cruz Crisoforo Chavez (H/m, DOB: 11-24-76), is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. A photo of suspect Chavez is attached to this news release.

The victim, Jose Lopez-Rubio, 25, suffered a stab wound to his right rib cage area and was transported in critical condition to Ben Taub General Hospital where he underwent surgery. Doctors pronounced him dead later that same morning.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzalez and Officer J. Sosa reported:

A witness reported seeing Lopez-Rubio and Chavez involved in a physical altercation near the garbage dumpsters and soon after, Lopez-Rubio stumble from the location. Chavez went to his apartment to retrieve a knife, which he used to stab the victim. Chavez was then seen going to another apartment within the complex while Lopez-Rubio went to the front of the complex, where HFD paramedics found him. Chavez remains at large.
