Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Accident at 5100 Old Galveston Road

December 04, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving an on-duty HPD officer and a pedestrian in the 5100 block of Old Galveston Road about 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 3).

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The officer, Ishmael Perez, was not injured. Officer Perez, assigned to the Eastside Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in July 1994.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. R. Sorge and Officer M. Lowder reported:

Officer Perez was on-duty and in his patrol vehicle traveling southbound in the 5100 block of Old Galveston Road when he suddenly noticed the victim in the middle of the lane in front of him. Officer Perez swerved to avoid the victim, but struck him with the front right portion of his patrol vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
