Akins and Mr. Whitfield work for the City of Houston Public Works and Engineering Department and are assigned to the Storm Water Maintenance Facility at 8430 Newcastle. The two, who had no known relations, had an altercation several months ago and settled the situation among themselves.

Soon after, Akins got into a vehicle and left the scene. HPD Southwest Patrol Division officers were quickly notified and pulled over her vehicle in the 4200 block of Beechnut, a few blocks from the shooting location. Akins was then taken into custody without further incident.
