Charges Filed in Fatal Traffic Accident at 4100 West Orem

July 18, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a female involved in a fatal traffic accident in the 4100 block of West Orem at Whiteheather about 9:15 p.m. on July 14.

Brittany Miller (b/f, DOB: 8-8-90) is charged with injury to a child in the 263rd State District Court for her role in the accident that resulted in the serious injury to a three-year-old girl and death of Samantha Land, 15, of Houston. Miller remains at Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was transported with major injuries. Two other juveniles were injured and taken to area hospitals with various injuries.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R.L. Gaines reported:

Miller was operating a green Kawasaki all-terrain vehicle (ATV) without its headlights on and four other juveniles as passengers. She was traveling north in the southbound lanes when she ran a red light at West Orem and was struck by a white Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Both Miller and Ms. Land were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where Land was pronounced dead about 10:45 the following morning (July 15).

Three juvenile passengers, including the three-year-old girl, were seriously injured and taken to area hospitals.

The investigation is continuing.
