Cadet Class 196 Graduates Pushing HPD Total Officer Strength Over 5000 Mark

June 19, 2008 - At a 6:15 p.m., news briefing today, Houston Mayor Bill White, Houston City Council Members, and Police Chief Harold Hurtt will make a special announcement regarding HPD’s total officer strength surpassing the 5000 mark. Outlining their commitment to the citizens of Houston to put more police officers on the street to fight crime, the 63 new officers of class 196 will push the department over the 5000 mark for the first time since 2004.

The news briefing will be held in L.D. Morrison HPD Training Academy Auditorium, at 17000 Aldine Westfield Road, room 422.

Immediately following, at 7 p.m., Chief Hurtt and members of the HPD command staff will welcome the 63-graduating cadets in an official graduation ceremony. The new officers will be added to patrol stations throughout the city to help respond to citizens’ calls.
