Charges Filed in Fatal Shooting at 2400 Chapman

June 23, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 2400 Chapman about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday (June 22).

The suspect, Aaron Velez (H/m, DOB: 10-19-79) is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Acension Rodriguez, 43, of Houston. Mr. Rodriguez suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.E. Elliott and Senior Police Officer J. C. Bonaby reported:

Velez and others were sitting on the porch of his home drinking beer when Rodriguez drove up to Velez’ residence and attempted to join them. Velez and Rodriguez got into an argument and Velez struck Rodriguez and knocked him to the ground. Rodriguez then got into his vehicle and drove away. Rodriguez returned a short time later, and parked in the driveway of his family’s residence, across the street from Velez’ home. Velez yelled at Rodriguez to leave went into his home, retrieved a shotgun and approached Rodriguez. As both men argued, Velez pointed the shotgun at Rodriguez several times. The argument continued and Velez shot Rodriguez once. Velez remained at the scene and was later arrested by HPD officers.
