Update on Fatal Shooting at 10650 Hempstead Highway

March 10, 2008 - Houston police have learned the identity of a man fatally shot at 10650 Hempstead Highway about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (March 5).

The male victim, Hollis Dean Hurst, 61, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim also suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition and is still recovering from his injury.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Officer J. E. Rodriguez reported:

Officers responded to 10650 Hempstead Highway after residents of the Lisa Motel reported hearing gunshots. A witness directed officers to room #114, where Hurst was found deceased. The second victim, Hurst’s son, was still alive.

There does not appear to be any other persons involved in this incident and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
