Fatal Traffic Accident at 13000 Gulf Freeway Service Road

May 2 , 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at the Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45 South) northbound service road at the South Sam Houston Parkway service road about 2:45 a.m. today.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

A witness reported seeing a silver Chevrolet Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of the Gulf Freeway northbound service road at the South Sam Houston Parkway (Beltway 8), however, no one questioned observed the accident. Due to the vehicle’s excessive speed, it left the curved roadway and struck a bridge support. The Corvette then landed on its roof and caught fire, trapping the driver inside. It appears the driver was the only one in the car.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information in the accident is urged to contact the HPD Mobility Incident Management Division at 713-247-4072.
