Fatality Accident at 6100 South Loop East

May 19, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 6100 block of the South Loop East (610 Loop) about 1 a.m. today (May 19).

The male victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second male victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant J.A. Calley and Officer L. Morrison reported:

The deceased victim was driving a red and white Honda motorcycle westbound on the South Loop East when he was struck by a gold Honda Accord. After striking the motorcycle, the Accord lost control and struck the concrete barrier, knocking over a street light and ejecting the driver onto the eastbound mainlanes of the South Loop East. The street light fell onto the eastbound mainlanes as well.

Both sides of the freeway were shut down during the investigation.

The investigation is continuing.
