Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at 100 North Travis

September 02, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested after he struck and killed a construction worker at 100 North Travis about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 30) and then left the scene.

The suspect, Ray Wilson (w/m, DOB: 2-24-37), is charged with failure to stop and render aid and intoxication manslaughter in the 185th State District Court. The victim, David Hall, 42, a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) employee, was on-duty when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Chambers and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

The suspect was driving a red Ford Contour north on Travis. He drove around a TXDOT truck blocking a left lane. Mr. Hall was standing in the left lane assisting a clean-up crew back out of the HOV lane entrance. After striking Hall, the suspect drove another 1/4 mile before he was stopped by an off-duty HPD sergeant who witnessed the accident. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
