Investigation into Man's Death at 2901 Elmside

September 02, 2008 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results of a man found dead at 2901 Elmside about 8:55 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 31).

The identity of the victim, believed to be in his 20s, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers J. Selvera and D. Vasquez reported:

An HPD patrol officer saw heavy smoke coming from the area of 2901 Elmside and the officer called Houston Fire Department officials to report a car was on fire in the apartment complex parking lot. After the fire was put out, firefighters found a deceased male in the driver's seat and a deceased dog on the floor of the back seat.

HPD homicide and HFD arson investigators arrived on the scene. At this time, there are no known witnesses to the incident. Once an autopsy is completed, investigators will learn more information as to whether the incident might involve foul play.
