Downtown Houston Open for Business

September 19, 2008 - The City of Houston is working diligently to restore basic infrastructure services to the Downtown Houston area including streetlights, signage, and hanging electrical wires. The city knows it will make significant strides through this weekend.

Previously, Houston Police Chief Hurtt recommended that in the best interest and the safety of our citizens, all events, sporting venues and cultural institutions suspend public activities and performances until Monday. Due to the resiliency of the Downtown Houston community, Chief Hurtt proudly reports to the citizens of Houston that the Downtown Houston area is open and ready for business.

All citizens should be mindful that the temporary citywide curfew is still in effect from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice.
