Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot at 1934 Wycliffe

September 29, 2008 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at 1934 Wycliffe about 1:05 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 27) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. He suffered one gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter, Charles Andrew Coker, 34, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Officer S. J. Anderson reported:

Mr. Coker and his girlfriend were watching television when the female saw a prowler outside the window of her door. When she told her boyfriend, he retrieved his gun and went to open the front door. As soon as Coker opened the door to look outside, two masked suspects pushed their way into the home. Coker, a licensed concealed handgun carrier, was pushed back into the residence. At that time, he fired one time, striking one of the suspects in the chest. Neighbors reported seeing two other suspects running from the scene.

The two wanted suspects are only described as Hispanic males. At this time, investigators believe the incident was drug-related.
