Fatal Shooting at 10909 Gulf Freeway

September 30, 2008 - The fatal shooting of an aggravated assault suspect at 10909 Gulf Freeway about 10:55 p.m. on Monday (September 29) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The suspect, identified as Efrain Rodriguez (H/m, DOB: 6-25-79), suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male shooter, identified as Kyle Martin, 30, suffered trauma to the chin and was treated and released at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. M. De La Cruz and J. Rubio reported:

Mr. Martin arrived at the Oxford Apartments to pick up someone when Rodriguez approached the driver’s side window on foot and started an argument. Rodriguez, who lived at the complex, then showed a pistol, threatened to shoot Martin and then hit him in the chin with the pistol. Martin, a concealed handgun license holder, then produced his own pistol, shot Rodriguez several times, then fled to a safe location before calling police and ambulance personnel.

The investigation is continuing.
