New Assistant Chief of Police Named

April 14, 2009 - Police Chief Harold Hurtt has announced the selection of Lieutenant John H. Chen as an Assistant Chief of Police.

He will be promoted in ceremonies scheduled for next Tuesday, April 21.

As Assistant Chief, Chen will oversee the Special Support Services Command comprised of the Emergency Communications Division, Jail Division, Planning and Research Unit and the Night Command.

Chen, 52, is a 27-year veteran of the HPD, with his most recent assignment as a Lieutenant at the Central Patrol Division. During his HPD career, Lieutenant Chen has served in the Office of Inspector General, Narcotics, Major Offenders, Criminal Intelligence and Homeland Security, Vice, Training Academy and Central Patrol. He has worked in the Vice Division and at the Training Academy two different times in his career.

Lieutenant Chen received a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership from the same university.
