Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 3500 Cullen Boulevard

April 23, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 3500 Cullen Boulevard about 7 a.m. on February 7.

Jeremy Lee Pierce (w/m, DOB: 2-13-77) is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court.  He was arrested on Wednesday (Apr. 22) by University of Houston police officers.  Pierce is accused in the killing of Joe Tall, 48, who was shot in the head.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer T.W. Miller and Officer M.J. Miller reported:

Mr. Tall, who was homeless, was sleeping in a bus stop shelter at the corner of Cullen and Holman on the University of Houston campus.  A student catching the bus to go to work found him lying on the bench bleeding from his head and then called 911.  Paramedics were called and pronounced Hall deceased at the scene. 

The University of Houston Police Department contacted homicide investigators on Wednesday (Apr. 22), stating they had arrested Pierce, a student at the school, after he was involved in an altercation with two other students he was acquainted with.  UH police say Pierce threatened the students while displaying a pistol.  The two students advised UH police that Pierce admitted to committing the February 7th murder. 

HPD investigators interviewed Pierce and obtained a recorded statement in which he admitted fatally shooting Mr. Tall.
