Mr. Canastuj was driving a green Toyota 4-Runner and was involved in a minor accident on the Southwest Freeway service road near Hillcroft with a white Mercedes.  Canastuj then fled the scene and was followed by a witness to the accident in a third vehicle.  The Toyota turned onto Hillcroft, then Harwin and then onto Savoy Drive.  Canastuj then lost control of the vehicle as he turned into a curve on Savoy, went up over a curb, struck a light pole and then a tree.  The front passenger in the Toyota was killed and Canastuj was taken into custody at the scene.
