Photos of Wanted Bank Robbery Suspects Who Fired Shots at HPD Officer

August 26, 2009 - Houston police have released photos of two bank robbery suspects who fired shots at an HPD officer at 9191 North Loop East about 4:45 p.m. today.

The suspects are described only as black males, both about 6 feet tall.  The first suspect is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s and had a light blue towel around his neck.  The towel was recovered outside the bank.  The second suspect, wearing a white baseball cap, is younger, believed to be in his early 20s.  Both fled the bank on foot.  Surveillance photos of the two suspects, including the first suspect with a gun in his hand pointed at the officer, are attached to this news release.

The officer, P.L. Marquez, of the Northeast Patrol Division, was not injured.  Officer Marquez, sworn in as an officer in December 2007, was working an extra job in uniform inside the Amegy Bank when the two male suspects approached tellers and acted suspiciously.  One of the suspects turned around and pointed a gun at the officer as both suspects were at the counters, and then approached the front door.  At that time, the officer gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon.  When the suspect refused, the officer fearing for his safety and that of employees inside, discharged his duty weapon at the suspects.  Both suspects then fired shots at the officer as they fled on foot outside the bank.

No bank employees were injured in the attempted robbery.

Anyone with information on the identities or whereabouts of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
