HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G.T. Hall and Officer A.N. Taylor reported:
The drivers of a black Chevrolet Impala and a black Ford Mustang were stopped at a red light in the westbound lanes of the intersection of Tidwell and Jensen. The Impala was in the left lane and the Mustang was stopped in the right lane. A silver Buick LeSabre was also traveling westbound on Tidwell in the right lane when the driver failed to control his speed, sideswiped the Impala, and then struck the back left portion of the Mustang. The Mustang rolled several times and hit a utility pole. The female driver and infant passenger of the Mustang were killed. The driver of the Impala was taken to St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in stable condition and the driver of the LeSabre was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.
Further investigation revealed that the driver of the LeSabre had stolen the vehicle prior to the accident. Charges against the driver, Brandon Trevelle Caines (b/m, DOB:8-20-85), are pending at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
