Investigation into Shooting at 10700 West Bellfort

July 1, 2009 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which a Bureau of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent discharged his weapon at a suspect following a vehicle pursuit which ended in the 10700 block of West Bellfort about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday (June 30).

Neither the agent nor the suspect, 23, was injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Rubio and Officer D. Gunter reported:

ICE agents were performing surveillance on a truck traveling through the Houston area and requested assistance from HPD officers in stopping the vehicle for a traffic violation.  As HPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled from officers, resulting in a vehicle pursuit.  During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to run over an ICE agent, who, fearing for his life, discharged his duty weapon at the suspect.  The suspect was not hit.

HPD officers subsequently stopped the vehicle and the suspect was arrested for felony evading arrest with a motor vehicle.  While conducting their investigation, officers found a large quantity of marijuana in the bed of the suspect’s truck.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings occurring within the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.
