Fatal Traffic Accident at 10500 West Bellfort

March 16, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 10500 block of West Bellfort about 8 p.m. on Friday (March 13). 

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer D. Nguyen reported: 

The victim was driving a green Ford Thunderbird westbound on West Bellfort and ignored the red light signal when he entered the intersection of the Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) northbound service road and struck a silver Toyota Camry and a white Nissan van.  The Ford then struck the post supporting the signal lights.  The Toyota then struck a Mercedes Benz that was in the U-turn lane north of the intersection.  The Nissan continued down the service road for a short distance before coming to a stop.  The driver of the Ford was killed.  The five occupants of the Nissan, the driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Mercedes were all transported to areas hospitals in unknown conditions. 

The investigation is continuing.
